Can I pay the course fee in instalments?
Local students can choose to pay in full (up front) or in four instalments. International students must pay the course fee in full (up front).
How long is the course?
The course runs for 12 months, but can be a few weeks longer depending on the needs of your individual feature film project.
I'm applying for a visa to study at Participate. How long should I ask for?
We recommend applying for a 14-month stay. This allows time for you to settle in and complete all school activities. For more information about visas visit www.immi.gov.au.
Are there any assessment criteria to join Participate?
Yes, the course director interviews each applicant before they are offered a place in the course. The interview is conducted face to face, or over the phone.
Is previous experience in the film/television industry helpful?
Experience is not essential, but may help you to find your strengths within the course and to branch into new areas. For example, someone with acting experience could discover new talents in editing film, producing or marketing.
Do all students who enrol at Participate get to be in a feature film?
Yes, every student gains a feature film credit at the end of the course. This is what makes the Participate programs unique.
How are the different filmmaking roles assigned in the course?
Students can focus on their particular areas of interest (in writing, acting, directing or editing etc) but must demonstrate their suitability for preferred role(s) in the feature film project by auditioning in front of the other students, supervisors and mentors.
Do I need to buy any equipment?
No, all equipment is provided including cameras, lighting and sound gear, editing facilities and much, much more.
What format will we shoot in?
Students work and film in high definition (HD).
What video-editing software will we learn to use?
Students use Final Cut Pro, the latest editing software from Apple.
Where is the course taught?
The Participate campus is at Australian Technology Park in the suburb of Eveleigh, next to Redfern train station and close to Sydney CBD.
Students may travel off campus for filmmaking activities and when producing the feature film project. Travel expenses are the individual student's responsibility.
Where should I look for rental accommodation in Sydney?
Two places to look for accommodation in Sydney are www.domain.com.au and www.flatmatefinder.com.au. If you are travelling from overseas, your travel agent may also be able to provide advice.
